AN INTRODUCTION TO FRAMPTON INTERNATIONALThe founder and Managing Director of Frampton International, having spent over 25 years designing and manufacturing both conveyor and batch specialised Infra-Red and forced convection ovens for prestigious industries such as Space research, Aircraft production and the Plastics industry, saw a need for a manufacturer of conveyor cooking systems in Europe and so formed Frampton International Limited. Using the experience gained in these earlier fields, a totally new and revolutionary type of heating element was developed. These elements are so reliable that Framptons give a lifetime guarantee on any Frampton slab element that is used in their baking ovens. Whilst the elements are the heart of the ovens, there are many other important design considerations that have to be taken into account when designing equipment that will be reliable, easy to service and still be capable of being sold at a competitive price. We at Framptons feel that we have achieved this. There are nearly 500 Frampton ovens and grills currently in use in the United Kingdom and mainland Europe. These range from small counter top ovens and grills up to food production ovens and grills 20 metres long. It was realised very early on that one of the main worries that an operator has is the problem of a machine breakdown. Therefore a totally different attitude to that of most manufacturers was decided upon. Framptons do not want to make money selling spare parts or servicing, Framptons want their equipment to last forever if possible. As a result of this policy all parts of the oven are over specified and many mechanical and electrical protection systems are built in. For example, a unique method of mounting the belt drive motors is used. In the event of an operator dropping something into the belt and jamming it, the motor is automatically switched off and both visual and audible warnings alert the operator. After developing a new micro-processor driven control panel for the ovens, it was decided that not only was this over kill but it did not give sufficient back up in the event of a fault and was not user friendly, either in use or in servicing and therefore it was decided to use individual plug in electronic temperature controllers, individual power contactors and multiple circuit breakers. Whilst to some people this may appear to be crude, on closer examination it will be seep that this is far from simple. The element temperatures are controlled within ± 1% of their set points. The pastry elements have a lifetime guarantee and the design of the ovens is such that, in the unlikely event of a breakdown of part of the heating service the oven would still bake consistently with full production with up to 30% of the elements not working. All parts are plug-in wherever possible and are chosen so that no part is running at more than 50% of it's designed capacity. Framptons have sufficient confidence in their baking ovens that they give a 3 year parts and labour warranty on them.
